DEW present new special steel in Nashville/USA

SCHMOLZ + BICKENBACH

NACE International’s Corrosion Conference & Expo is the world’s biggest event for the “prevention and mitigation of corrosion”. As a company in the SCHMOLZ + BICKENBACH Group, Deutsche Edelstahlwerke (DEW) will be presenting their new special steel, Corrodur 4418 Mod, at this year’s exhibition in Nashville/USA from 24 to 28 March in Hall B, Stand 1015. The extremely high-performance steel, also known as Super 13Cr, is characterized by high strength, outstanding toughness and good resistance to pitting and stress corrosion. It thus exceeds conventional chrome steels in terms of performance considerably.

More than 6,000 corrosion professionals from 60 countries, including scientists, researchers, engineers and technicians will be attending the Corrosion Conference & Expo organized by NACE International, the industry’s most important event, at the end of March in Nashville, Tennessee. This also includes the steel and corrosion experts from DEW, who will be presenting the new special steel Corrodur 4418 Mod at the conference. With this steel grade, DEW were one of the very first steel manufacturers to be qualified by the leading oil and gas company, Statoil ASA (since 2018: Equinor ASA) according to NORSOK M650 for a strength level of min. 110 ksi yield strength. Corrosive media, such as acid gases or chloride, constantly attack the materials-handling technology at high temperatures in the oil and gas extraction sector. Corrodur 4418 Mod takes over where conventional chrome steels reach their limits and offers users an extremely high-performance material solution.

Increased performance with unchanged dimensions

Deutsche Edelstahlwerke has managed to improve the steel’s properties by means of controlled heat treatment. With a tensile strength of at least 862 MPa, a yield strength of 758 MPa and a toughness of at least 81 J at –10 °C, Corrodur 4418 Mod is far superior to conventional 13 % chrome steels. The very good resistance to pitting and stress corrosion is a noteworthy attribute. What is more, the steel’s high strength opens up greater scope to users when it comes to dimensioning components and planned increases in performance with unchanged dimensions. “We are delighted to be able to present our special steel to a wide trade audience at Corrosion in Nashville. Over and above this, we very much look forward to talking with other experts,” says Peter Grüneberg, Senior Key Account Manager Specials at DEW.
